Q: Where do I ask questions?
A1: Join the mailing list and ask away! If your question is not specific to the project, but about EEG, biofeedback or electronics in general, please try a search engine first.

Q: Is there a different or more common name for pinhead/pinhd connectors? Many electronic component shops do not seem to know that term.
A: Sometimes these are called Berg pins or Molex pins or “square pin headers”.

Q: What sort of cable should I use to connect the electrodes on my head to the Open EEG hardware ? And what sort of connectors should I put at the end(s) ? How should the cable shield be connected ?
A: We’re still talking about various options on the mailing list. Some of the options include …
- mini XLR sockets and plugs
- S-Video cables and the the 4-pin Mini Din sockets and plugs, to connect to it
- (unshielded) telephone cables and RJ-11 plugs. Naturally I’ll use the inside pair (“line 1”) for power, and the outside pair (“line 2”) for data signal. I would superglue a little bump to the side of the plug, and file a notch in the sockets in the EEG case, to make sure it’s impossible to plug the cables into a real telephone socket.
- What do ordinary stage audio microphones use ? Would it make sense to design an active amplifier such that it amplifies to standard audio line levels and can be plugged into a standard sound board ?

A: Have you hooked up both electrodes of the differential pair, and the DRL output ?
